SupWiz CEO Stephen Alstrup in the news on new EU strategy

24th of February 2020

A new EU strategy for digitization and AI application was revealed last week. With political support Denmark has the potential to become an AI frontrunner, but new legislation can also create obstructions.

Competition Commissioner and VP of the European Commission Margrethe Vestager has been assigned the responsibility of developing a strategy for digitizing Europe, which was presented last week. A central focus is to create trust among consumers and protect citizens.

On the occasion of the new strategy, SupWiz CEO Stephen Alstrup was interviewed about the potential wins but also pitfalls of a new strategy. The fear is that we will get another cookie legislation. Stephen says:

I have no doubt that there are good intentions, and I also agree that it makes good sense to protect the citizens. But look at the cookie regulations: How many people are really happy to spend time hitting that button and saying yes to cookies? We need to make sure regulation does good – instead of being just another good intention that is annoying in practice.

In another article in the news same week Stephen suggests an initiative together with Lars Frelle-Petersen, CEO of the Confederation of Danish Industry (DI): A data donor register.

Just like people sign up to donate organs, they should be able to sign up to donate their data. That could help decision makers, researchers and companies to make smarter decisions about the future and as a result, it could strengthen Denmark’s position as a leading country when it comes to digitization.

The new digitization strategy for EU was presented February 19, 2020.
